Inland, import and export traffic

The majority of BLS Cargo’s traffic is for companies in the oil, waste disposal and construction industries. BLS Cargo works directly with the customer to organise company-specific logistics chains and takes over the responsibility for professional transportation by train from the collection point to the destination. In this market segment, customers particularly appreciate the reliability and tailor-made service from BLS Cargo.

Transit traffic

For a number of years, BLS Cargo has handled transit traffic comprising block trains carrying cars, building materials, steel, timber and paper. The company also works closely with DB Schenker to take large numbers of “mixed” trains (for more than one customer) between Germany and Italy.

East-west traffic

Since 2008, BLS Cargo has provided two train services per day on the west-east route through Switzerland for Sitfa, an Italian car transporting company. The trains come from France and are forwarded through Switzerland and via Austria and the Czech Republic to Poland. With this service, BLS Cargo has established an east-west transit route and entered the growing transport market serving the Eastern European countries.
